Exciting news

I'm a member of CakesCanada.com and frequent the forums there on a regular basis. Every couple of months they hold a competition called Showcase where members can enter pictures of their cakes for other members to vote on. This month they extended the contest to include a draw. Nine winners will recieve 2 buckets of Satin Ice fondant and then create a Kids' Cake with their fondant to be judged for the grand prize. Well I was one of the first two winners in the draw! I'm super excited!!

... I've ordered fondant from the people sponsoring the prize for this event and when I sent my contact info to Levon at La Gaterie, he included a picture of my Chanel cake on the website. You can view the site here

Bought some new cutters and a cupcake stand. Should recieve them in the mail soon. Can't wait!

Doing a second cake next weekend. It's a cupcake cake for an 11 year old who likes dogs and the colour purple. Should be fun! Chocolate and strawberry cupcakes with SMBC.

Recipes that I like

• Hershey's Black Magic Cake A great moist chocolate cake recipe that isn't too sweet and easy to make
• Chocolate Banana Cake An awesome low-fat cake recipe. If I'm making it to decorate I'll often use a different chocolate cake recipe and make 1-2 layers of the banana cake. I use a low-fat cream cheese - chocolate icing (rather than the ricotta)
• Martha's Swiss Meringue Buttercream I love using my Pink Kitchenaid mixer to make this buttercream. It tastes amazing and I wouldn't survive without it. I add flavoring to this recipe to make different types of filling

My boyfriend Joey loves the show Mystery Science Theater 3000 so for his birthday I got him a MST3K themed gift and made him this Tom Servo cake.

Base is made from chocolate cake with SMBC. Torso and upper is made from Rice Krispie treats. All covered in SMBC & fondant. Painted with luster dust.
